Racing lobster boats heats up Maine waters

Lobster boats are not known for their speed on the water, but don't tell that to the lobster boat captains who race their boats in an event described as a "Kentucky Derby for the trapping set".

The New York Times features a story on races held by the Maine Lobster Boat Racing Association and how boat captains creatively weight their boats for maximum speed. The races are held near a fishing village on the tip of Deer Isle, Maine.

The boat races are a friendly event and a welcome break from the tough work of making a living from lobster trapping.
